4 Attractions You Can’t Miss While Visiting The State of Kansas

by Bill Clevlen February 27, 2023
by Bill Clevlen

The state of Kansas is home to approximately 2.9 million people. Renowned for its agriculture, wheat industry, sunflowers, mouthwatering barbecue meals, Kansas offers so many special experiences and fun activities for visits of all sorts.

From beautiful nature sites to historic attractions/venues to sporting and entertainment events, a traveler coming to Kansas will never have a problem finding memorable experiences.

Here is a guide on some of the top attractions to check out during your visit to Kansas.

Bill Snyder Family Stadium

The Kansas City Chiefs, of course, play their home games in the nearby state of Missouri. Still, the Chiefs are far-and-away the most popular NFL team in the state of Kansas. The Chiefs are coming off their second Super Bowl championship in four years, having outlasted the slightly favored Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in the big game. Unsurprisingly, Patrick Mahomes and company are the favorites to win the Super Bowl at multiple Kansas sports betting sites.

However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything for Kansas sports fan within their state, the Bill Snyder Stadium located in The Little Apple of Manhattan. If you wish to see a football game within the state of Kansas, you can see the Kansas Wildcats’ NCAA football team while visiting their home stadium, which can hold over 50,000 fans and it’s placed 8th as the largest stadium in the Big 12 conference.

The Wildcats finished a successful 10-4 last season. They’ll open up the 2023 season with a home tilt against Southeast Missouri State on Sept. 2.

Eisenhower Presidential Library

American visiting Kansas certainly can’t miss out on the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum and Boyhood Home.

Located in Abilene – about 88 miles away from Kansas’ capital city of Topeka — this is the presidential library of Dwight D. Eisenhower, American’s 34th president who served in office from 1953 to 1961.

The area includes the Eisenhower Home, where the 34th president lived for 13 years from 1898 to 1911. In Jan. 1971, the Eisenhower Home was officially named to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

The Eisenhower Presidential Library carries all sorts of special Eisenhower exhibits. Some of the temporary ones currently on display include the “Women Unite for Ike” and “By the Numbers.”

There is a lot of special history to learn during your visit to Kansas. The Eisenhower Presidential Library should be at the very top of the list for any history lover coming to The Wheat State.

Botanica, The Wichita Gardens

One of Kansas state’s most renowned and popular tourist attractions, the gardens celebrated their 35-year anniversary just last year.

Located in Wichita, these gardens carry 17.6 acres in gorgeous and breathtaking nature. Botanica, The Wichita Gardens are home to so many blossoming flowers — including your favorites like tulips, roses and daffodils.

There is a wide variety of different events at Botanica, The Wichita Gardens year-round, too. This is an ideal place to bring your friends and loved ones, whether it’s for a special event (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.), or just a casual day out.

Jayhawks Game At The Allen Fieldhouse

Kansas doesn’t have any teams in either of the “big four” professional sports leagues (NHL, NBA, MLB or NFL). But they have several elite collegiate programs, including the Kansas Jayhawks’ men’s basketball team.

The Jayhawks have been one of the most successful NCAA basketball programs for decades. Their arena — the Allen Fieldhouse — is one of the nation’s most electrifying and energetic sporting venues.

The Allen Fieldhouse is located on the campus of the University of Kansas, located in Lawrence. The venue opened up in 1955 and has served as the Jayhawks’ home arena ever since. Last year, the Jayhawks won their fourth national championship in school history by defeating the North Carolina Tar Heels in one of the greatest finals’ games in NCAA history. The No. 3 ranked Jayhawks will finish their 2022-23 regular season on the road against the No. 8 ranked Texas Longhorns on Mar. 4.

And then they’ll begin their quest to become the first school to win back-to-back national championships in men’s basketball since the Florida Gators accomplished the feat in 2006 and 2007.
