We're talking Texas this week! And the lonestar state is full of incredible museums to explore. Here are five of my favorites to get your road trip plans started.
The Sixth Floor Museum
The former school book depository where Lee Harvey Oswald (so they say...) shot President Kennedy as his limo went down the street in Dallas. You can go up to the sixth floor where Oswald barricaded himself between boxes of books in front of the window.
The museum does a great job of telling the story and exploring the theories behind the assassination.
Presidential Museums
Speaking of Presidents, did you know that Texas is home to three former Presidents? Check out the Presidential museums of LBJ, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.
Houston Museum District
The district consists of 19 museums in 4 walk-able zones. Some of the museums include the Houston Museum of Natural Science, Houston Zoo, Houston Health Museum, and the Children's Museum of Houston.
FYI - while exploring the museums and downtown Houston, plan on using the city's metro system - it's fantastic!
Space Center Houston
Be sure to take the NASA tram tour which includes a stop at the historic mission control - where NASA monitored nine Gemini and all Apollo lunar missions, including the historic Apollo 11 trip to the moon and the final Apollo 17 trip
The Alamo
The Alamo Mission in San Antonio is home of the famous 1836 battle. The 300-year-old former Spanish mission turned fortress is open year round.
