SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS – Talk about a day full of history! Any trip to Springfield, Illinois should include visits to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, Abe Lincoln’s former home and the burial site of the 16th U.S. President.
You can begin at the state of the art Abraham Lincoln Museum which boasts incredible exhibits and interactive displays that are really quite incredible for a Presidential museum.
Then, just down the road you’ll find the former home of Abe & Mary Lincoln. The National Park Service has purchased and operates the entire neighborhood. The tour includes a walk through their home including a photo op in front of the the house and another small museum with more historical information about the home and area.
One final stop can include a visit to Lincoln’s resting place. The large memorial which houses the President’s tomb, is on the back side of the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
