Lake Tahoe Fun Facts

Lake Tahoe is one of the most popular recreation spots in the western part of the U.S.  It’s also a fascinating piece of nature.

The lake sits between two states, in northeastern California and northwestern Nevada.

It is the second deepest lake in the United states — 1,645 feet!  (For comparison, Lake Of The Ozarks is 130 feet deep.)

At it’s longest and widest point – it measures 22 miles.

The entire shoreline is 72 miles

If you’re looking for sunshine – 75 percent of the year, on average Lake Tahoe is covered in sun….

If you like to ski – at alpine skiing elevations – the snowfall averages 600 inches a year.

If you took all of the water out of the lake and poured it onto an area the size of California – the water would still be 14 inches deep

The amount of water in Lake Tahoe (39 trillion gallons) is enough to supply each person in the U.S. with 50 gallons of water per day for 5 years.

It is one of the most pure bodies of water in the world. 99.994% of the water is pure. (Commercially distilled water is 99.998% pure.)

There are lots of things to do in every season.  Winter activities include skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice skating and more.

Over 3 million people visit each year.
