A Look Back at 2021

From beaches to the biggest tree in the world, 2021 has been full of incredible, unforgettable experiences – traveling through more than 20 states and more than 50 small towns and big cities all across the U.S.A.

Walking through Thomas Jefferson’s house or lurking outside the gates of Jerry Lee Lewis’s ‘might be near the top of the long list of wonderful travel experiences in the past year. Standing beneath Superman, posing for a photo with one of The Temptations, or making my first visit to Sin City could rank up there as well. Truth is – 2021 was jam packed with meaningful moments and a whole lot of fun.

I got my kicks along Route 66, stopping at roadside attractions, historic motels, and dining at an iconic Texas steakhouse. From Missouri to California – the “mother road” still packs an All-American punch.

There was Colonial Williamsburg where I stayed in home built in the 1700s and the night I reunited with a childhood favorite – Showbiz Pizza (along with a complete stranger) in Mississippi. There were National Parks – weird trees, stunning views, and a morning alone with General Sherman.

I found myself in scenes from movies and TV —  Longmire, the carwash from Breaking Bad, and my favorite – the set of The Office.

And of course, small town America never disappoints –  Abingdon, Virginia; Stillwater, Oklahoma; Port St. Joe, Florida; Norfolk, Nebraska; and Kingman Arizona to name a few. Even the birthplace of Kermit The Frog turned out to be a fun stop – almost as fun as visiting James Madison’s house or sitting at Elvis’s favorite piano in Nashville.

Here’s to all the great experiences, great food, and of course – the many great people along the way that made 2021 another terrific year – for Bill On The Road, and Rediscovering America.
