Once a quintessential hotspot for rowdy college students on spring break – Daytona Beach has morphed into a laid back coastal getaway more likely to attract families and retired couples. I had the pleasure of spending three beautiful days exploring Daytona Beach along with its surrounding communities and was pleasantly surprised by what I found.
There were plenty of things to see and do for those of us that like to keep busy. But for travelers that enjoy a more “chilled out” pace during vacation or weekend getaways – you’ll find no shortage of places to relax and enjoy a great meal.
Five Things Not To Miss In Daytona Beach
1. Daytona Beach Parasail
One of my bucket list adventures was finally checked-off while visiting Daytona Beach! The crew at Daytona Beach Parasail made the entire experience an absolute breeze. After a short trip away from the shore, you’re placed in a surprisingly comfortable harness and instructed to sit at the back of the boat. Once clipped in to the parasail – it’s smooth sailing as you’re lifted up into the air!
I honestly could not believe how easy and stress free the entire experience was! Once you’re up in the air – you may soar near 1,000 feet above the water. It’s insanely quiet and peaceful up there! Can not recommend this experience enough! It was so much fun and so memorable!

2. Play Pickleball at Pictona!
As more and more people play pickleball it’s becoming a must-do activity while on vacation as well! Pictona is a relatively new pickleball complex, boasting over 40 outdoor courts on a huge campus near Daytona Beach in Holly Hill. Day passes are quite affordable and allow you to join open play or have a game with your own family or friends.
In addition to pickleball – Pictona has various yard games and even a miniature golf course! Don’t forget about the on-site restaurant, “The Kitchen” to grab a bite to eat or a snack between games.
3. Climb The Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse
The lighthouse stands 175 feet tall and costs just $6.95 to go inside and climb to the top! After you enjoy the beautiful views from the observation deck – explore the lighthouse grounds and check out the various museum buildings, including the historic Pacetti Hotel across the street.
4. Take a Tour The Daytona International Motor Speedway
Even if you’re not much of a race fan it’s hard not to be amazed by the size of the Daytona International Motor Speedway! After you take the tour (which includes standing on the track) be sure to visit the cool museum on-site. The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America includes the most recent Daytona 500 race car as well as beautiful vintage race cars and other racing memorabilia.
5. Pop Stroke – Daytona Beach
Pop Stroke is a new take on miniature golf and Daytona Beach has one of its newest locations! You can play one of two professionally designed courses and enjoy great pub food from the on-site restaurant and bar. Fun Fact – you can actually order drinks to the hole you’re playing on when using their app!
Daytona Beach’s Emerging Foodie Scene
While I’ve never claimed to be some sort of a food expert – I was still very impressed by some of the local spots I was able to check out while visiting Dayton Beach.
Take for example, Millie’s Restaurant – a “hole in the wall” spot with fresh seafood and cozy ambience that most visitors drive by as it’s tucked away in a strip mall. This place is not to be missed with fish on the menu that were caught the same day.
Over in nearby Ormond Beach – Alexander’s Prime is a killer steakhouse with a fabulous menu and sprawling dining room with beautiful artwork on the walls. The New York Strip steak I ordered was absolute perfection. The dinner sides are big enough to share with others. The restaurant
And if you’re looking for a laid back meal with an incredible sunset – look no further than a place called Our Deck Down Under. It’s located in Port Orange and below the Dunlawton Bridge. The sunsets are amazing here and the seafood is great, too.
Where Is The Daytona Beach Sign?
Don’t miss the cool “I Love Daytona Beach” sign for a fun photo op while you’re visiting the area. The “I Love Daytona Beach” sign is located at City Hall at the corner of Ridgewood and Orange.
Conclusion
I had such a wonderful visit to Daytona Beach! It was my second time in the area and I loved having the extra time to explore and soak in the laid back vibes of the city. I met a lot of really nice people and can easily see myself making it a regular stop when I come to Florida.
I want to thank Bahama House for hosting me during my visit to Daytona Beach. The boutique hotel sits right along the beach and has easy access for those end of the day walks along the water. The rooms are spacious and clean and the staff was helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!
